STORMWATER MANAGEMENT

Managing stormwater can be a challenge in our region, where sudden and copious rain events temporarily or persistently flood parts of a garden or yard. We use a “form-follows-function” approach to managing rainwater. We consider rainwater management at whole-yard scale, using thoughtfully installed dry stream beds to channel water from gutter downspouts to a wet meadow (rain garden) where water can pool and infiltrate into the soil. We also install shoreline plantings and erosion control measures using natural materials that enhance and protect dynamic edge habitats where land and water meet. We manage stormwater in keeping with the goal of soil and water conservation.
